quirky cool portraitist on the streets of chicago.

Alice Lancaster

portraitist/nanny.

Alice Lancaster, 22 years old, Chicago

what you do?
i'm a nanny full-time and I draw portraits

a little bit about yourself:
i grew up in st. louis and moved to chicago a couple years ago to study illustration at columbia college but hated school so i dropped out after a year. i am obsessed with faces and always on the search to discover new ones to draw.

a little bit about your art:
i (almost exclusively) draw portraits. i like the subjects to be easily recognized but at the same time appear a bit distorted.

what makes your art different from all the others?
it's personal.

who do you look up to?
as far as artists go i think alice neel was incredible. i love diane arbus and john deakin's photography. but there isn't one particular artist who has influenced my work. i do look up to amy sedaris though. do i really need to say why?

coolest word?
cumberbund
